Learn to use a map and compass! Join Phil Starr for a fun workshop with field exercises to help you learn how to find your way around Government Canyon and other Natural Areas and Parks.

Who is Invited:
Open to ages 12 and older; participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Registration & Fees:
Registration required for EACH participant. All Natural Area entry fees apply to this workshop.

When & Where to Meet:
Arrive by 12:45 pm. And meet at the Exhibit Gallery next to the Visitor’s Center. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth.

What to Wear & Bring:
Dress for the weather. Bring at least a liter of water per person and a snack if you like. Bring your own compass or borrow one of ours.

Requirements:
Group size is limited to 12. No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

In the event of inclement weather, this program is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page.
