The Mary You May Not Know
Sunday, May 13 at 9:00 am in the Bloom Room
We're all familiar with Mary, the mother of Jesus. In Protestant denominations she tends to get trotted out around Christmas to give birth, with maybe a couple of mentions in the lectionary during the rest of the year. And of course there's all that beautiful artwork. But in other faith traditions - among Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Copts, and Muslims - she receives more attention and reverence, and the traditions and stories surrounding her are surprisingly rich and fascinating. This class will explore some of the wealth of tradition and belief regarding Mary, the Theotokos or God-Bearer.
