Does your back hurt? Or does it bother you more often than you’d like? Spinal Health Yoga is your panacea. Attending any class in this series is like seeing a chiropractor for a spinal reset but with the added benefit of gentle pranayama, a 75-minute practice—compared to 10 minutes with a chiropractor, and a feeling of ooey-gooey goodness.
The four classes of this series, presented over 2 weeks, will increase in intensity, but you’ll likely not break a sweat even in the 4th. And if your spine is not ready for some moves in later classes, hip sways and knee rocks are effective options until you are ready. This series is appropriate for anyone, though it is NOT a remedy for intense, sharp, or shooting pain.
* The focus in class 1 will be loosening the spine, breaking up stiffness and set muscle patterns.
* Class 2 will include more strengthening for the front core.
* Classes 3 and 4 will add back side strengthening.
The first class will leave you feeling Mmmmm. And you’ll get a handout of the poses for all the classes plus optional homework: a 10-minute routine to do daily—ideally just before meditation and bed—to keep your spine loose. The movements—Groovy Cat-Cow, Hip Swivel, Spinal Revolution—might be unfamiliar to you. That’s why you get the handout early: so you can read the names before class, become familiar, and do them at home, as needed, when your spine needs reset.
This series was developed by Elizabeth Fryer, 200-hr RYT, who herself has spinal stenosis, aka arthritis.
