The goal of 1000 Minutes is to help players develop individual skills and build confidence with the ball – outside normal team practices and games. It is a supplementary program that can be done entirely at home, or away from the AYSO fields, and the program will include skills like changing direction, beating an opponent, controlling the ball, defending, and tactical play. 1000 Minutes was developed by AYSO in the late 1990s as a do-it-yourself program. It fell into disuse. Region 1472 revived it in 2016 and thought it might be more productive to have instruction and some resources. A downloadable PDF file is included on this page, and it describes the skills that will be taught in the sessions. This site also includes links to tutorial and inspirational videos.
There will be three to four 1+ hour sessions during the season, at which players will have a chance to practice the skills and receive instruction. The sessions will take place at the Grant AYSO fields on the Sunday afternoons of 19U-team home games. Players completing the program will receive a skills ball and T-shirt. The cost of the program will be $15 per player, payable at the first session.
