Each session focuses on how to integrate mind, body, breath, strength, flexibility, mobility and stability. Students will walk away from this series with a better understanding how yoga can be useful and beneficial for daily life in order to move and live in an integrated and functional way.
Part 1: Basics of the Body and Breathe
Yoga is a vehicle for experiencing deeper and deeper levels of self- awareness. It also functions to support creating a balanced and healthy body while allowing your mind and heart to open more readily to the joyous possibilities of life. In this workshop practitioners will gain an understanding of how the breath and the systems of the body work together through the practice of yoga. Students will also be lead through a functional restorative practice that can be used for their daily life. The sequence will provide gentle backbends, supported forward bends, and modified inversions to calm your nerves and recharge your batteries. But its rewards go beyond the physical. It uses conscious breathing—the direct link between your body and mind—to move the practitioner into deeper and deeper relaxation. Let this nurturing and soothing workshop restore balance to your life.
Part 2: Fundamentals of Flexibility and Strength
In the second part of the this workshop series practitioners will dive deeper into the benefits of yoga and specifically look at the muscular, skeletal, and nervous system. Practitioners will investigating how yoga is a science, not an exercise, and is meant to synchronises breath and movement. In the spirit of inquiry, the workshop will also include a yoga and journaling sequence to deepen the connection between yourself and your movements, and establish a more in-tune and gratifying approach to your yoga practice.
Part 3: The Essentials of Embodiment
The goal of this workshop is not to dissect the body, but to embody its wholeness. Practitioners will receive tools and knowledge that will improve their yoga practice and sharpen their yoga teaching skills. They will also learn to cultivate a newfound meaning of body awareness and control into their new or existing practice by completing an essential sequence that puts their body through its full range of motion – using forward bends, backbends, inversions and twists. The sequence is safe and offers various modifications meant to increase circulation, allow one to breathe more freely, and bring vitality and lightness to the body.
