Guttenberg Arts Gallery is pleased to present “MADE HERE Winter 2018” a group exhibition featuring current Space & Time Artists in Residence; Slinko and Marc of Brooklyn. The exhibition will be on view April 13th - May 27th, 2018. The works included in “MADE HERE Winter 2018” were created during the artist’s residences in Guttenberg NJ this past winter cycle.
At Guttenberg Arts, Slinko has introduced various printmaking techniques to her practice and created limited edition portfolios which contextualize political and social unrest through a range of complex overlaid imagery. Her drawings are intuitive and explore themes of consent, dissent and the many different forms of political behavior from ordinary citizens. Through patterns and structures Slinko has articulated a nuanced understanding of social interactions and political discourse.
Marc of Brooklyn has created a new body of ceramic work that playfully mixes queer culture with religious ceremony. This new series consists of sculptures that parallel ritual vessels found in the ancient world. The exploration into these themes is deeply personal for the artist and treated with a whimsical visual language. There is a masculine quality to the soft contours and forms that are found in his work. Marc’s sculptures resemble containers that can be used by a shaman during sacred ceremonies. Adding to the mythos surrounding this work, Marc continues to conceptualize a biased theology inspired by a range of fetishes found within sub cultures of the queer identity.
