The conscience typically begins to develop around the time a child is in kindergarten. It’s built on rules, prohibitions and the child’s own experiences in the first 5 years of life.
The inner voice of one’s conscience can be helpful, kind and friendly; or it can be harsh and disapproving – depending on the kind of guidance children get from parents and other trusted adults during this critical stage of development.

This discussion will offer insights about:
+ How the conscience develops
+ How a child’s effort to understand this new part of his/her mind can result in behaviors that confuse or concern parents
+ What parents can do to support the growth of a helpful, friendly conscience

For parents of children age 4-12
