Intersted in becoming a birth doula? Already working in the field, but want to become nationally certified? This training is for you!!

Come learn how to offer women and their partners unbiased physical and emotional support as they labor, give birth and transition into parenthood. Through evidence-based research and interactive teaching techniques, this training will give you the practical tools and information to pursue a career as a birth doula. Taught by a local, experienced doula, you will gain insights into the local birth community as well as the doula scope of practice, working with hospital staff, starting your business and much, much more! Also, you will receive support and mentorship after the training as you begin your exciting journey!

Training topics covered include:
-Importance of continual support in labor
-The stages of labor--normal emotional and physiological expectations
-Listening and communication skills
-Honoring a woman’s individuality
-Emotional support and pain coping tools
-Medical interventions: what, when and why
-Working in partnership with the hospital staff
-Special circumstance, such as VBAC, single moms, multiples & still birth
-Newborn care and breastfeeding basics
-Developing a doula practice, including ethics & standards of practice
-Marketing and conducting interviews and pre- and post- partum visits
-Becoming a CAPPA professional
