The three stage bands and Tam-Young Jazz Combo from ʻIolani School present their final performance of the school year, with special guests Glenn Kostur and Tim Ishii on saxophone, and Stefan Karlsson on piano. The concert program will feature a wide variety of jazz and contemporary styles, including the music of Duke Ellington, Wes Montgomery, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, and several original student compositions.
Glenn Kostur, Tim Ishii, and Stefan Karlsson are all highly acclaimed jazz performers and educators, maintaining an active global schedule as featured soloists and clinicians. Kostur is a former member and music director of the Maynard Ferguson Jazz Orchestra, and is currently Director of Jazz Studies at The University of New Mexico. Ishii and Karlsson head the jazz studies department at the University of Texas at Arlington and are first call musicians in the Dallas - Forth Worth area. Karlsson is also a touring member of the Eddie Gomez Quartet. The concert is made possible with support from the Tam-Young Arts Chair at 'Iolani School, The Patrick Lim Family Stage Band Endowment, and the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel.
