HSI is essentially a volunteer-supported organization. April 14th is our "Refresh the Farm Day." If you can carve out a little time that morning or afternoon to help out, we really could use a hand with minor clean-up and repairs to help get the venue ready for the season. Here is the current list of what needs to be done that day (or other days!):

1. Complete sheep shed rail fencing and make some gates - we have the wood.

2. Clean up some construction debris at the farmhouse fence (which was recently refreshed by an Eagle Scout candidate), and at the hamburger stand (which was reconstructed in the fall of 2017).

3. The last big wind took care of the (fake) outhouse south of the barn. It needs to be taken to the burn pile.

4. Two fence rails at the orchard need replacing.

5. Put linseed oil on the north doors at the corn crib. We have the oil and the brushes.

6. The post for the small gate at the orchard chicken coop needs to be reset.

7. Butch Reigart is busy pruning the fruit trees in the orchard, and could use more hands to help. We have tree trimmings to be taken to the burn pile (near the orchard).

8. The Schaeffer House needs new steps installed. We have the wood cut for them.

9. New rain gutter needed at the hamburger stand, we will have that available, also clean out gutter at the porch of the Schaeffer House.

10. Dig out multiflora roses in the cattle fence lines west of the barn. They take over fast and are very invasive.

11. Stain the new posts at the hamburger stand - we will have the stain and paint brushes.

12. Possibly paint the new posts at the picket fence near the Schaeffer House.

13. There's a constant need to pick-up sticks and trimmings, plus clean up the creek. Much debris has washed onto the property from recent high waters.

LOOKS LIKE A LOT DOESN'T IT? BUT WITH MANY HANDS, LARGE AND SMALL, WE CAN TACKLE MUCH OF THIS IN SHORT ORDER. WE START AT 8:30 AND GO UNTIL YOU HAVE TO LEAVE. LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED. If you have questions, please contact the HSI office. Thank you!!
