The John J. Markell Memorial Art Contest provides high school aged students in Frederick County an opportunity to depict, through art, some aspect of the county’s history. The contest seeks to inspire young Frederick County artists to become better acquainted with the history of Frederick County; to depict events, people, and places which portray the past and present to the future; to develop and refine artistic skills in the traditional style, while exploring new techniques; and to have fun with their art.
