Sports historian Charles Billington, author of "Wrigley Field’s Last World Series: The Wartime Chicago Cubs and the Pennant of 1945," discusses the ramifications for the Chicago Cubs' new identity in light of their 2016 World Series championship. Billington details the team’s great success in its early years, continued dominance during the Depression, deep-seated futility in the last half of the 20th century, and their recent return to supremacy. Billlington’s program includes rare film footage of the team through the years and also explores the cultural, economic, and social significance the organization has had through Chicago’s history. Free and open to the public. Books for purchase and autographing after the program. For more info: http://www.homewoodlibrary.org/events/chicago-cubs-champions-then-and-now.
