Fruit Palace presents:
THE DROP - "UK Reggae at its best" (David Rodigan, BBC 1Xtra). Alongside multi-instrumentalist ISHMAEL ENSEMBLE dropping dancefloor-centric jazz / afrobeat cuts and beyond. Hip hop jazz collective SOUNDS OF HARLOWE and Afro-Twang 7 piece NAMIWA JAZZ blending nu-soul, African jazz, hip hop and RnB. Plus FRUIT PALACE DJ spinning conscious reggae, hip hop, bass and jungle.
Melding jump-up grooves, down and dirty bass, epic walls of sound and clever lyricism THE DROP create a mesmeric stage show.
Taking some time out after a frantic first few years of gigging to perfect their long awaited debut album, ‘Last Stand’, they are primed for a return to the stage. The album, recorded at the prestigious KONK Studios, remains true to the live experience they've developed and features dub pioneer Lee "Scratch" Perry on lead single Dunna Runna.
Stoking the fires of free thought, reggae has long been the spark to ignite any potential brooding youth movement. From The Clash to the explosion of dub-step, they all have their place and are each as culturally significant as the last. THE DROP are set to find their place in this category, coming hard with their own distinctive sound and a strong message.
►ISHMAEL ENSEMBLE (DJ SET)◄
ISHMAEL ENSEMBLE started releasing deep house tracks on Wolf Music before stepping out of the box with the release of his debut album “Sometime In Space” in 2016. The record is an exploration of dusty soundscapes and off-kilter house which Ishmael then developed into a Live A/V show with visual artist Amie Nowlan, performed with Boiler Room.
2017 saw the multi-instrumentalist embark on his most ambitious venture yet with the launch of the ISHMAEL ENSEMBLE. Their debut record “Songs For Knotty” on Banoffee Pies Records takes the listener on an emotional journey through jazz and ambient music, with support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Alexander Nut & Tom Ravenscroft.
►SOUNDS OF HARLOWE◄
Hip hop jazz fusion collective SOUNDS OF HARLOWE incorporate a wide range of influences including soul and rock to create their own signature brand of music.
