PLEASE, RSVP at EVENTBRITE SO WE HAVE AN ACCURATE SKILL COUNT
An 8-hour coding day with a mission— making it easier to discover and donate books for and about children of color (space open for an additional 4hrs). The divisiveness of race and class starts early. ⅔ of children in poverty don’t own books, and books for and about children of color are exceptionally hard to get donated. But the issue is readily solvable. An easy-to-navigate listing of pre-vetted books that recognize, make relevant and make visible children of color.

Web Builders: Your Mission, If You Choose to Accept It
is to create a web app that promotes the discovery and donation of books for and about children of color.

Two-thirds of all children in poverty don't own books, and books for and about children of color are particularly hard to get donated. But the issue is readily solvable. An easy-to-navigate listing of pre-vetted books that recognize, make relevant and represent children of color. Madison Reading Project needs a web-based book donation app, that allows people to donate books for and about children of color.

We're calling coders, designers, project managers, editors, writers, promoters, and other interested parties to volunteer for a single-day to make this project a reality. We need people with skills in the following mediums— HTML5, CSS, Javascript, WordPress, working with APIs. Additionally, we need experienced project managers, writers, editors, experienced marketers, designers, and others looking to get involved.

We will gather Saturday, April 21st at 7 N Pinckney Street. We will take over Horizon Coworking for 8-hrs to ensure that every child receives respect and representation while learning to read. Plus an additional 4hrs of open space for the night-hawks.
