Join us for the annual Takoma Porch Music Festival! Saturday May 12th, 2-6pm. Outside in our parking lot, weather-permitting. Complete schedule at http://takomaporch.net (music all around Takoma Park!). HMT will be hosting:

Ara Casey Music & Erik Sharar (of Honey Kill): 2pm
Ara Casey and Erik Sharar are one half of the DC-based retro indie outfit HONEY KILL. Unexpectedly wistful and fierce, the career wanderer and Peabody survivor play songs that weep but sound remarkably happy under the circumstances. Try not to move. We dare you. (Disclaimer: No pollinators were harmed in the casting of this tour de force.)

Toccata Players: 3pm
The Toccata Players are a budding string ensemble based in Takoma Park MD. Founded initially as an ensemble focused on tango music, they draw inspiration from a range of influences from Astor Piazzola to Radiohead. Each member has a commitment to their instrument, and weaving beautiful melodies and harmonies as an ensemble. Founder and guitarist Justin Heath holds the rythm and adds textural accompaniment as Manu Osorio’s violin and Rachel Cannon’s Viola dance and converse. Their repertoire includes up beat tangos, brooding milongas, Latin American folk songs, pop tunes, and jazz standards.

Wanderlight: 4-5pm
Wanderlight bridges ethereal and immediate sounds, writing neo-folk songs of sorrow and joy with guitar, cello, and bass. This group takes their traditional and classical instruments and tries to approach them from new perspectives, bringing a fresh set of harmonies and rhythms from beyond the usual bounds of acoustic music.

rob & Rowan of ilyAIMY: 5-6pm
Percussive, rhythmically driven guitar that freely composites fingerpicking, classical melodies, running bass lines, harmonics, and hard-charging chords. Rob's vocals are needled and gaunt, with the jittery energy of a dockyard stray on speed + DC-area singer/songwriter Rowan Corbett brings a mixture of modern and traditional sounds, instruments, and sensibilities with his eclectic playing. Rowan is also a percussionist with the Baltimore-based favorite, ilyAIMY, a member of the Grammy-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops and is a founding member of Irish band, Tinsmith.
