Last month, at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival, “The Dawn Wall” was premiered. In January, 2015, American rock climbers Tommy Caldwell and Santa Rosa native Kevin Jorgeson captivated the world with their effort to climb The Dawn Wall, a seemingly impossible 3,000 foot rock face in Yosemite National Park, California. The pair lived on the sheer vertical cliff for weeks, igniting a frenzy of global media attention, and was the genesis for this highly-praised, SXSW 2018 Audience Award winner in the documentary category.
Blurring the lines between partnership, dedication, and obsession, Caldwell and Jorgeson spent six years meticulously plotting and practicing their route. On the final crux, with the world watching, Jorgeson’s partner Caldwell is faced with a moment of truth. Should he abandon his partner to fulfill his ultimate dream, or risk his own success for the sake of their friendship?
Next week's edition of Wake Up Santa Rosa will feature a unique conversation between Visit Santa Rosa’s Executive Director Brad Calkins and superstar rock climber (and local entrepreneur) Kevin Jorgeson.
Brad will detail elaborate on how, through teamwork and partnerships, the hospitality industry continues to contribute to the local economy after the challenge of last year’s fires and how it will continue to play a key role in the aftermath and recovery. Kevin will provide a vibrant look into the experience of dreaming big, embracing hardship, and the power of partnership. The audience will also enjoy a moderated discussion and open Q&A on how we can apply lessons from the adventure for perspectives on community recovery efforts.
You are cordially invited to join us on Thursday morning, April 12 at the Hyatt Regency Wine Country in Santa Rosa for this engaging Wake Up session.
