Workers Memorial Day, April 28th. Remember the dead. Fight like hell for the living. Local 493 invites our Brothers, our Sisters, our family and friends to join us on Saturday, April 28 as we remember those we have lost on the job and in the fight for workers rights. Join us for a few hours of remembrance at a site incredibly rich in labor history and practically in our back yard. Mt. Olive, IL is the home of the Union Miners Cemetery and the final resting place of one of the strongest and most dynamic people in the history of the labor movement, Mary Harris "Mother" Jones. If you don't know much about Mother Jones do a quick online search and prepare to be amazed at the place this barely five foot tall woman immigrant from County Cork Ireland has in labor history through her fight for worker's and children's rights. Cecil Roberts, President of the United Mine Workers will speak at the event and lay a wreath at the grave of Mother Jones followed by short trip to the Mother Jones Museum for food, drink and discussion. That's Saturday, April 28, 11:00am to 2:00pm in Mt. Olive, IL. I'll post more information as we get closer to the event.
