Zines are self published or D.I.Y. magazines. They are often associated with cheap xeroxes and the punk scene, but zines can be personal, informative, visual, or collaborative, they can feature poetry, drawing writing, photography, lists, anything really. Pine Island Press is a not for profit extra small press that makes zines and publications that focus on photography and visual art. Come look at zines by Pine Island Press and others, get inspired, and then make a zine of your own! Sharing and accessibility are ideas central to zine making, so we will make enough so folks can take a few copies home to give to friends and family.
This class will focus on making a visually-oriented, folding, 8-page zine. Class participants should come with some words in mind, as well as photos or found imagery to work with to make their zines.
