ANGÉLICA LIDDELL, Spain’s most prominent performance artist, will present poems from her recent collection Los deseos en Amherst / Desires in Amherst, inspired by the work of Emily Dickinson. This performance will be in Spanish with supertitles in English translation. Professors Regina Galasso (Spanish and Portuguese) and Harley Erdman (Theater) have worked on the collective translation of the poems with a group of UMass students and community members.
Liddell has performed at the world’s most prestigious theater festivals including Festival d’Avignon and La Biennale di Venezia. In 2012, she received Spain’s National Prize for Dramatic Literature. During her U.S. visit, she will also perform in New Jersey and Washington D.C.
