Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Sciatica most commonly occurs when a bulging disc, bone spur on the spine, or narrowing of the spine compresses part of the nerve.
This workshop will include a brief and basic introduction to the anatomy of the Sciatic Nerve with Physical Therapist Candy Doran. Kathy Alef will teach how to elongate the spine and how to lengthen and soften the column of muscles that supports the spine through basic asanas (poses) with modifications to accommodate the healing process and alleviate pain. Participants will learn to recognize how the asanas relate to postural alignment and activities of daily living and ways to prevent recurrence of sciatica
Some Iyengar Yoga experience recommended.
