Sunaad presents Mandukya Sant Vani, a confluence of the Mandukya Upanishad and the poetry of saints across India. Combining Hindustani classical music with theatre and movement, this show illustrates the shlokas of the Upanishad through the lived experiences of the saints.
Sri M, householder yogi, whose intimacy with the Upanishads can only be described as experiential, provided inspiration and guidance to us on the texts.
Padmashri Gundecha Brothers, renowned Dhrupad artistes, composed the music for the Shlokas in Sanskrit and the Sant Vani in different Indian languages.
Sri Sunil Shanbag, well known theatre director, screenwriter and documentary filmmaker, mentored the group with theatrical inputs.
Sunaad is an eclectic group of singers, composed of students, home-makers and working professionals, all of whom share a common passion - a love for Hindustani classical music. The group is led by Tara Kini, a classical singer and educationist.
Since its inception in 2002, Sunaad's endeavour has been to make classical music and philosophy accessible to audiences of all ages. Narrative and theatrical elements are interwoven into each show to help elucidate a wide range of themes, from the historical evolution of classical music, to an understanding of Dhrupad, to the Sufi poetry of Rumi to the message of the Upanishads. These ideas have found expression in seven unique shows with over 70 performances in cities across India, and have met with great appreciation everywhere.
