Jatra Biroti Live Performances March 22nd-24th 2018

Thursday March 22nd - Connected

Connected was formed in 24th February 2012 with the initial line up consisting of Fahim, Sazid, Rahi, Rifat & Azan. However the band line up changed a bit with the joining of Juven and leaving of rifat. From the very beginning the band wanted to develop the music which reflects their identity. Few months later Juven left the band and Eshan joint as a guitarist. Later Sazid left the band and hasan joined the band. With that line up the band started to compose their originals and got released them in band mix compilation called “Revulsion” and “Artonad”. Later Rahi left for the Canada and the band became the four man line up with Fahim, Ehsan , Hasan and Azan. The bands third original “Prerona” got selected for the Rock compliation in between. When Ehsan left Dhaka for Chittagong the band line up changed again. In November 2017 Hasan left the band and Azan took a break for studies. As the saying goes the show must on on so after a search Connected got 3 new guitarists consisting of Akash Oney and Shafol. They also got Samiul as the new drummer and Mohaimin as the bassist. One more addition to the band was Mr. Shuvo as the Manager. With that lineup they released their single ''Goti'' in the mixed album Rockaholic 4. Apart from the release they are now busy with stage shows as well as shows in TV and radio. At the same time they're working on their debut album slated to release by 2018. So the current lineup is:

Vocal: Fahim Kamal Chowdhury
Guitars: Nahian Ahmed Oney
Guitars: Niaz Mahmud Shafol
Bass: Azan Mostafa
Drums: Samiul Haque

Friday March 23rd - Riad Hasan

Growing up with the electrifying band music of the early 90’s, Riad Hasan, a contemporary singer-songwriter cites music as his lifelong passion. His genres of interest include indie, soul, pop & soft rock and fusion. With the heady combination of classical and modern music enlivening his formative years, Riad recollects how it was growing up in a riverside colony in Chittagong, where music permeated the air and alleyways.
Receiving classical vocal training in his early teens he added to his musical skills by picking up the guitar while in class eight. Drawing inspiration from some pioneering bands and artists of Bangladesh, Riad embarked on his musical journey, dedicatedly composing pieces which feature in his ultimate debut album of 2014 “JodiBhabo”. Songs like the dreamy picturesque “Bus Kabbo” and the entertainingly relatable Chittagonian song “Shatkani-Fatikchori" are sure to be a pleasant surprise for a first listener.

Saturday March 24th - Listening Room

REProduce Dhaka at Jatra Biroti
Saturday, 24th March 2018, 7-11 PM

**Donor Passes available at the door at BDT500**

On Saturday, March 24th, New Delhi based music collective REProduce Artists will finally bring their signature performance series to Bangladesh. We are really excited to be able to do this with Akaliko Records, a collective of musicians and curators who we have been listening to for some time; we're very happy to be finally working together to do what we do in a city as big and complex as Dhaka.

The underlying context aims to fill a gap in the ever iterating and increasingly varied community of live music in India by showcasing talent that might not get heard in the more mainstream oriented venues. REProduce Listening Room has focused purely on the music – in a space where an audience can absorb sound on their own terms.

This iteration of the series will be happening just after TEDx BaileyRoad, and will unfold over two spaces at Jatra Biroti. As such, we will be able to showcase both local and visiting talent to a broader audience than we may have been able to otherwise, and with a goal of building a means to cross this border more often in the months to come.

National Animal (Kolkata, India)

Somdev Thakur has been making music under a number of aliases for some time, having played in his hometown of Kolkata for years. However, I met him as - by virtue of a sort of community that began to flourish around our events in Delhi - a sound technician. Although, to be sure, the very first time I met him he was playing guitar for a collaboration between Goa based rapper MC Kaur and Delhi based unclassifiable three piece Smooth Relax. So, I suppose there was always a signal that he did make music. For this iteration, its that latter part of his pedigree that we are proud to showcase. National Animal allows Somdev a sort of canvas to paint a picture with his varied influences; vocal stylings, rapping, live electronic music production all come together here into something that is at times both hilarious and head nodding. This will be his first time in Bangladesh.

Space/Ghost (Dhaka, Bangladesh)

Soundcloud bios are usually three words and a bunch of links; in this case it’s “cellophane , buttons , coffee cup , prehistoric canned peaches , Sasquatch !!!!!!” Note the six exclamation points. No idea. Alternatively, “In his original incarnation, he was a superhero who, with his teen sidekicks Jan, Jace, and Blip the monkey, fought supervillains in outer space.” Alternatively, he works with PAs and knows the system at the venue. But really, and perhaps most relevantly, he is a producer with years of experience behind him, and we are very excited to be able to showcase him here.

Towfique Ahmed (Dhaka, Bangladesh)

We’ve been talking to Akaliko to figure out a way to put Towfique on for ages, and it looks like this is finally the time. It’s hard to describe what exactly Towfique does. Born and raised in Khulna, he is trained as a lawyer, but I can’t think of many lawyers who rack up hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube as a performing artist. His father was an exceptional orator, his mother worked as a social worker and writer, he himself clearly has opinions about the world around him, and, they resonate. And the man can rap.

Sinin (Khulna, Bangladesh)
