“Excellent Nonprofit Boards Invest Time and Resources to Educate and Train Board Members and Volunteers”
Excellent Boards formalize a new member orientation process, build educational activities into Board meetings, schedule retreats for exploration of complicated issues, and support ongoing learning by providing their members easy access to information about Board leadership and governance. In this Nonprofit Excellence Workshop, participants will explore best practices and gain understanding of key tools to deepen Board members’ commitment to the organization, strengthen Board members’ understanding of their role, and cultivate a culture of ongoing Board improvement.
Guest speaker Lisa Sams, MSW, MCE has 25+ years of working with faith-based organizations, social services nonprofit agencies and for-profit businesses, and has cultivated her passion and compassion for the unique struggles employees, volunteers, and clients face each day.
In 2011, Lisa started a new business venture called SHINE ON! Leadership Training & Development. Her mission is to help people understand that as we go about our daily lives, we have an opportunity to shine a little bit of light into someone else’s world. She is a sought-after motivational speaker for luncheon and dinner meetings. She is a certified meeting facilitator and serves as a consultant for nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses on developing leadership, team building, community relations and volunteer recruitment and retention. Lisa also leads workshops for the Baylor Scott & White Health called Sacred Vocation, nurturing the spirit of the hospital employees. Ultimately, this enhances the quality of work performed and results in a more healing, enriching work environment. In 2016, Lisa added a youth component to SHINE ON! in two ways: one-to-one coaching for teen girls, and programs aimed at rising Middle School and High School leaders.
