Capoeira is born within the black population, enslaved or descended from enslaved, and carries a social stigma that makes be prohibited by law in the first Criminal Code of the Republic. After a hundred years, she states as an educational tool and, in 2014, was recognized by Unesco as intangible heritage of humanity. During this perıódo, various forms of transmission of knowledge were experienced by the capoeiristas , from simple observation to metodizado education. Now, because of your strong presence in the area of education, we live a moment thinking about Capoeira as a generating source of knowledge that has the potential to change paradigms in our society. Who knows, soon will be incluıd́a in all schools of the Paıś?A vision that respects the Brazilian culture as a fundamental part in teacher education has the potential to create a democratic, inclusive and transformative pedagogy. There's only 50 years, nobody believed that estarıámos where we are. Where are we going to reach for the next 50 years?

About Fernando Dias

Fernando is passionate about Capoeira and – since he was 13 years old, he knew that this art & fascinating mix of elements from the Afro-Brazilian culture, would lead him to a life dedicated to the pursuit of excellence within this discipline. Fernando’s mission is to further develop his capabilities within the Capoeira discipline & in the course of which to attend workshops in Brazil given by him and his group and to attend both events & conferences on the subject.

“I have come here on a mission and I see myself as an ambassador for Capoeira in this part of the world. I want to popularise Capoeira and the best way to do this is to start by introducing it at the school level.
