----------------------------------------------------------------
Mad Meg is a New York based band which proclaims its style as “Punk Chanson Noir”. Having originally debuted in 2011, Mad Mag’s eclectic sound is colored by the ethnic and music backgrounds of its past and present members who come from Russia, USA, Mexico, Austria, France, Puerto Rico and Kazakhstan. Their musical backgrounds range from jazz to mariachi music, from rock to Russian urban folk, from punk to cabaret. The leader of the collective is Ilya Popenko, who besides heading the band as a singer and songwriter, is also an artist and photographer, who is, for the most part, responsible for the band’s visuals. Mad Meg’s regular members include: the Kazakhstan born,\ Rock drummer, Ruslan Baimurzin, Berkeley Conservatory graduate, Jason Laney, multifaceted bassist, Igor Reznik, and the band’s guitarist, Dan Veksler. Ilya Popenko’s unorthodox raspy baritone underlines Mad Meg’s sound, while the band’s songs, haunting and neurotic, posses a fair amount of debauchery, tragicomedy, and nostalgia. Dark and awkward lyrics paint a disturbing picture of a daily life of a lone urban dweller set to the background of upbeat minor key melodies. In Ilya's own words: " These are the anthems of The Great American Indoors". Having the “Shake it Like Your Dead” EP and “Puberty Tales” LP under its belt, in 2017, Mad Meg toured Russia, where the band shared the stage with the internationally known Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra, as well as, the Russian rock stars, Nogu Svelo!

Entrance: 5 EUR (ask bartender)
