On April 6th Katy Depot plays host once again to the First Fridays program series. Returning speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Smith will portray one of the great western artists of the nineteenth century, George Catlin. Catlin traveled from St. Louis to the West several times during the 1830s to create paintings, drawing, and descriptions of the native tribes there to preserve their culture before it disappeared.
When not performing as Catlin or P.T. Barnum or Andrew Carnegie—which he has been doing for many years, Dr. Smith is a Professor of History at Lindenwood University in St. Charles. He is also a published author, award winning editor and presenter on several historical subjects.
The evening will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments and the program itself will begin at 6:00 p.m. These events are open to the public with a $5 admission fee taken at the door. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling the Katy Depot at (660) 826-2932 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
