In March 2018, six undergraduate students accompanied the Kenan Institute for Ethics on an alternative spring break program to examine the changing physical and philosophical nature of the U.S.-Mexico border and the impact of a physical barrier on the residents, economy, and culture of Texas’ Rio Grande Valley region. Exploring the region with residents, representatives from the city of Brownsville, students and faculty from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and other on-the-ground partners, participants discussed, debated, and listened to new perspectives on border politics.

You are invited to join the Kenan Institute for Ethics, the participants of the 2018 Alternative Spring Break Program, and key faculty partners for a discussion of the experience and the perspectives gained from the program.

LOCATION: Ahmadieh Family Conference Room, West Duke 101, East Campus, Duke University
