Fire and Food (2 Day Event)
April 28 & 29, 2018 | 8 am till finish each day.
Our third and fourth workshops in our Primitive Skills Series will be a two day event on Fire and Food.
On Saturday we will focus on the important necessity of fire. We will go over locating proper fire starting and fire building material within your environment; building a proper fire for cooking, warmth and survival in the elements and proper fire starting techniques including tools focusing on Flint and Steel (we will have kits available for purchase), if time allows also the Bow Drill and Ferro Rod. We will practice building and starting a proper fire multiple times throughout.
Sunday will be all about another necessity...Food. We will discuss how and where you would cook your food, be it at home, cooking in camp, on the trail and in survival situations. We will utilize the fire building and fire starting techniques learned on Saturday to prepare a few meals as part of the in class instruction and enjoyment. During the whole weekend, a fire will be utilized and in many ways it will be demonstrated all the benefits one can enjoy.
These skills are often forgotten and in many cases lost knowledge or skills never learned, yet they are invaluable for camping, hiking and survival situations.
For those wishing to camp here Saturday night, we have limited space so please let us know if you will be needing a space.
Students should bring a camp chair or stool. If camping, bring a tent or hammock (weather dictating) and personal gear. We ask you clean up your camping area and fire pit area.
We will provide breakfast and lunch both days and dinner on Saturday for all students. Some meals will be group prepped as part of instructional learning.
