The thoughts, energy, and embodiment of this group are taking place on unceded, unsurrendered, stolen Algonquin territory. Here, we make an imperfect commitment to incorporate a decolonial framework into all aspects along the path of resistance with recognition of past and ongoing colonization.
All are welcome to drop in and leave the meeting at any point between 5pm and 9:15pm. You're welcome to come if you've never attended before. Come once, come regularly, whatever.

What is White Noise: In response to the call for white people to organize and hold each other; a group for white anti-racist people looking for a space for collective strategizing on possibilities for using what we know about white supremacy to leverage white privilege, reiterate racial truths, and act as an accomplice to race-based resistance here in Ottawa. Focus on moving out of the background and into making noise in our white spaces.
The purpose of this group is to deal with our own individual complicity with white supremacy through education, discussion, resource sharing, sharing our mistakes, learning from and with each other; it’s not just a group for white people sitting around and talking about how crappy other people's racism is. It is a space for acknowledging the racism that we perpetuate, understanding the many ways in which white supremacy influences us, and strategizing about how to take accountability and do better in the future. A main goal is to address white fragility and work collectively to move beyond white guilt and toward responsibility. It's a group for white people to take on the emotional\\labour of addressing racism and white supremacy.
This meeting and all subsequent meeting will serve as a support and resource center for SELF LED initiatives challenging whiteness. This includes a baseline of; working with white emotions to allow for movement from guilt/shame to responsibility, collective strategizing for transforming ideas/ knowledge into action, and education to inform initiatives.
Some examples of what we talked about at past meetings: talking about when we have been racist and what we did and could have done differently and accountability, sharing resources on addressing the racism of coworkers, going through an article about the pillars of white supremacy and discussing how we embody them in our lives and how to address these issues, how to engage our family members in conversations about racism, learning to reflect deeply on our anti-racist values and how to make them tangible and effective in practice.
Kind is an accessible space. Please see their website for more information: http://kindspace.ca/
