The 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Magdala, Abyssinian Campaign, 1868.
The King's Own Royal Regiment was one of three British regiments which took part in the Abyssinian Capaign of 1868, a campaign so expensive it added two pence on to the rate of income tax! The King's Own marched 400 miles to the fortress capital of Emperor Theodore at Magdala, to release European hostages.
Curator Peter Donnelly tells the story of the Regiment, using wonderful photographs from the campaign, regimental records and the letters of Lieutenant Herbert Borrett written to his wife.
