“Photography has no reality, it is almost one hundred percent a picture”
Gerhard Richter, 1991
Untitled Spaces comprises a series of framed, wall-sized, colour analogue c type photographic prints. Applying a mix of conventional and non-conventional darkroom processes, using film in conjunction with painterly interventions, camera-less abstract images are hand-printed. Images residing between existence and the abyss suggest a human presence which permeates the composition. Untitled Spaces is a contemplation of The Image, employing abstraction to scrutinise the function of photographic representation.

Considering a personal past using family memorabilia, specifically on her mother’s side. Pippett responds to items, offers visual links, engaging with a personal history. Altering and playing with memories has led Pippett to create new and interchangeable ways of viewing these past events. Responding to a final photograph of her Great-Grandmother surrounded by family, Pippettre- creates the scene, drawing on subtle elements of performance and illusion. Creating an understanding of the individual, the exhibition performs a summoning of action and memory. Dušičky or ‘All Saints’ Day’ is the Czech day of remembering the departed, derived from Roman Catholic origins.
This project is supported by the South Australian Government through Arts South Australia.
