Martin Suckling: Candlebird
Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 16 in D Major, K451
Beethoven: Symphony No. 4 in Bb Major
Charles Owen, piano
Mark Stone, baritone
Nicholas Collon, conductor
Aurora continues its journey through Beethoven’s symphonies in an engrossing programme that shifts from the introspective to the exuberant.
Baritone Mark Stone joins the orchestra for Martin Suckling’s 'Candlebird', a poignant song cycle that weaves together microtonal sounds with tender, expressive lines, praised by The Times as “luxuriously imaginative”. Also feautured is Mozart’s effervescent Piano Concerto No. 16 performed by Charles Owen, who makes his debut with the orchestra.
The lively spirit continues as Aurora brings its critically-acclaimed approach to Beethoven’s orchestral works to the composer’s fourth symphony – a work bursting with spine-tingling power and overwhelming momentum.
Martin Suckling’s 'Candlebird' is supported by Resonate, a PRS Foundation initiative in partnership with Association of British Orchestras, BBC Radio 3 and Boltini Trust.
