Witnessing Abel Selaocoe perform is a truly awe-inspiring experience - his performances seem to fill the air with a fizzing energy, and invariably raise goosebumps on the arms of his audiences. It gives us great pleasure to welcome him as Guest Director for this project. We can't wait to get started.
Sirocco is pure joy and energy - a great storm of music that celebrates the incredible warmth and diversity of folk traditions from across the globe. This is music for the people, by the people.
Joining Manchester Collective for this unique collaboration is Abel's band, Chesaba, a trio specialising in the performance of music from the African continent.
The programme covers everything from Giovanni Sollima's inspired Lamentatio (in an outrageous virtuoso arrangement by Selaocoe - watch it here), darkness and light by Ravel and Haydn, a set of original African work performed for the first time, and two gorgeous Danish folk songs to round off the night.
We hope to see you at the party.
