Bringing dinosaurs back alive
Take a quick look in a children's book on dinosaurs, and you may think we can take «what a dinosaur looks like» pretty much for granted. Or can we? Palaeontologist Dr. Anne Schulp (Naturalis, the Netherlands) will tell about the long chain of events that extends from a once-living dinosaur to the plastic model in a children's toybox. To what extent is this plastic dinosaur an accurate representation of an animal long extinct? What are the tools and the assumptions, the facts and inferences we have, as a palaeontologist, to guide us in our collaborative efforts with palaeo-artists, model makers and CGI wizards to take us back to the age of dinosaurs?
