We start at Crohamhurst Observatory, Peachester. with a tour of the Kitchen Garden which is just 18mths old. Meander through the heirloom vegetables and delicious survival foods that will surprise you. This location is where Kookaburra Organics hosts all it's workshops.
Whilst at Crohamhurst, we will have an exclusive honey tasting with Paula West, Queenbee of Adopt A Beehive.
Tasting 4 sensational honeys, harvested from different locations on the Sunshine Coast. Clean, pure and raw honeys. You will also taste our amazing Rose Honey, highly sought after for its unique flavor and medicinal properties, which rival Manuka.
A quick morning Tea and on to the bus to Ten Acres Farm where Jamie & Melody are creating a sustainable lifestyle for their young family in Ninderry, Sunshine Coast. This family farm encompasses the Ten Acres Bakery, established earlier this year.
They have already established a great reputation amongst the public and chefs eager to obtain their authentic sourdoughs & patisseries. Fresh sourdough bread will be available for purchase on the day, along with Melody's artisan marmalade. You will see large plantings of Garlic which will be harvested later this year.
Then a short journey to our lunch destination & final farm, meeting their neighbors Emma & Aaron Heffernan who also have a young family and are establishing a sustainable lifestyle. Emma regularly ferments their surplus produce. The vegetable garden is extensive and showcases the abundant diversity of foods grown for their table. Cherry tomatoes and snow peas seem to be everywhere. Aaron is also a Beekeeper and is very conscious of the importance his bees have on pollinating their gardens.
Both these farms are small scale and are the early days of development, AND already producing income to support their sustainable lifestyles.
Lunch will be served in the vegetable garden.
