The EstroGenius Festival is the longest running festival celebrating women’s voices in NYC. Currently, it has evolved to include gender non-conforming and non-binary artists and will continue a legacy of expanding assumptions of gender moving forward.
Begun in Manhattan Theatre Source in 2000 as a short-play festival, the festival has launched and supported hundreds of artists in its 18 years. 2017 was the festival’s first time in its new home hosted by Frigid at The Kraine Theatre on E. 4th St with special collaborations with La Mama Experimental Theater and Downtown Arts.
Currently at the helm of the festival are Melissa Riker and Maura Nguyen Donohue.
In concurrence with the inclusive values the festival was founded on, this executive team focuses on art generated, written, directed and performed by artists moving to expand notions of gender and representation. The producers strive to create a full, empowering, festival dedicated to a community that hears, sees and celebrates women and non-conforming artists in all of their dynamic diversity.
