A two day workshop with UK artists David Thomas (painting and drawing) and Anna Lambert (ceramics).
Explore ways to connect drawing techniques with surface design on hand built ceramics.
Students will investigate drawing and mark making with artist David Thomas, alternating with sessions to learn simple ceramic hand building and surface design techniques with ceramicist Anna Lambert.
By the end of the weekend each student should have produced a group of slab built, slip painted pots and plates related to their collection of exploratory drawings.
There will be several sessions making simple slab built forms such as plates and cylinders from white earthenware clay, alternating with drawing sessions using paper, ink, brushes, sticks, knives, scissors and glue to make a series of innovative and imaginative abstract drawings. From these we will extract composition, textural and tonal qualities to develop surface decoration on the platters and cylinders, discovering the various ways that techniques such as stencilling and masking, layering of different coloured slips, basic monoprinting with slips, sgraffitto, inlay and other markmaking techniques can be used to realise a design.
The course costs 2,200kr which includes material+ 2 firings & Lunch both days
The pots will be fired after the workshop, and glazed at Kroloftet.
