DAY 1: Labuan Bajo / Flores to Central Komodo
We will collect you from the airport or your hotel for a 10:30am/ 11:00am departure from Labuan Bajo, then welcome you onboard La Galigo. After a refreshing welcome drink, and a short introduc- tion to the facilities of our ship, the diving schedule, and the tour program, we set sail for our first day, which will include a refresher dive for all divers on board.
Dive 1: check out dive at Sabalon or Sabayor. Dive 2: night dive at Gili Lava Darat or Kanawa.
We relax for our first Dinner together and an overnight cruise to central most part of western Komodo.
DAY 2: West Komodo
Morning dive at the awesome Batu Bolong, AKA Current City, followed up by a second morning dive at Tatawa. This is our preferred location for Day 2 due to the ability to start getting back into diving if you’ve had some time off, and to practice with your reef hook and safety marker. Thou- sands of fish of every colour and shape are here including regal angelfish, checkerboard wrasse and masked unicorn fish, against a beautiful backdrop of Acropora corals, Gorgonian fans and sponges.
DAY 3: North West Komodo
Pre-Breakfast. Morning dive: Crystal Rock. After a ‘proper’ breakfast, we depart for a dive at the world renowned Castle rock. The rock is packed with bronze and rust coloured sponges and soft tree corals. Black snappers, large cuttlefish, pyramid butterfly fish, and octopus galore await us there. Later in the afternoon we climb the local summit and enjoy a splendid panorama over the moon-shape islands of the Komodo Archipelago and the mainland of Flores. Afternoon dive at Light house, followed by a night dive at Gili Lava Passage.
DAY 4: South West Komodo
Awake early in the morning to complete our diving at a wonderful site called the Golden Passage in the northern most part of western Komodo. Later in the morning after a short cruise, conditions de- pendant, we dive again at our favourite spot: CURRENT CITY (Batu Bolong), for a chance to dance one more time with our new Manta friends. Our afternoon and evening is occupied by either Makassar reef or Batu Tiga dependant on conditions.
DAY 5: Rinca
After a couple of customer choice morning dives, we visit Rinca National Park, to gaze upon the world’s largest reptile, the Komodo Dragon. There are several options for hikes upon this Jurassic styled island, however, for the less active of us, the dragons are usually not too far from the har- bour ;) (rumour has it, Komodo Dragons prefer Guatemalan Rum if you find yourself in duty free) Later in the afternoon we head towards Pulau Kalong (Bat Island), to witness thousands upon thousands of migrating bats as they scatter gracefully through the ever amazing Indonesian sun- set.
Any extra days booked through a full boat charters will either extend times in our favourite areas, or give us an opportunity to explore other areas. This will be communicated to the passengers as to where they might wish to dive whilst onboard, dependent on seasonal conditions we would rec- ommend heading to the south of Rinca in search of infamous sunfish / Mola Mola.
Please note, La Galigo will not guarantee an itinerary, this is meant for illustrative purposes only. The summa strait and the weather conditions in the area are highly unpredictable, and we will not risk our vessel, or our passengers’ safety if our captain and chief officer feel that conditions will not allow us to travel to certain areas.
Please note that this itinerary is subject to change, and is based on weather and sea conditions, this is a sample itinierary.
