Join us for a First Friday reception at the bookstore with artist, Leah Virsik!
I am interested in bits and parts of material and items no longer used for their original purpose. Through an act of unmaking, by my own hand or otherwise, the material I use is no longer a castoff, but speaks of potentiality and a remaking of the self.
Leah Virsik is based in Oakland. Her work is driven by an interest in materials and includes collage, sculptural fiber and book arts. She received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from San Francisco State University in 2016. Her artist book Contents is featured in Lark’s 500 Handmade Books: Volume II juried by Julie Chen. In addition to being the Adobe Art Gallery Director (Castro Valley, CA), she currently facilitates watercolor and drawing to people with Alzheimer’s Disease in Richmond. She will be teaching a week-long workshop June 10–17, 2018 on Upcycling the Everyday Garment at Feather River Art Camp in Quincy.
