Holistic Options for Planet Earth Sustainability
Eugene: April 12th - 14th
Design Week Portland: April 15th
Please join us for the 24th annual HOPES Conference! HOPES is held every spring by the Ecological Design Center, a student group at the University of Oregon. Inaugurated in 1994, the conference is an opportunity for students, faculty, community members, and visiting scholars to discuss the relationship between ecology and various design disciplines, and how this connection can produce sustainable solutions to contemporary problems.
The conference consists of panels, keynote speakers, workshops, exhibitions, and excursions. Past topics addressed during the conference include: environmental literacy, food sustainability issues, religion and the environment, product innovation, and biomimicry.
This year's conference theme is Unbuilt. Unbuilt is to reassess the existing and find potential for the future. Our environment is shaped by the unseen - cultural, political and economic forces intersect with design to impact everyday life. How might we synthesize these forces in new ways to build a sustainable tomorrow? HOPES aims to deconstruct the preconceived, voice the unheard and find potential in challenging the norm.
