The race will start and finish at Colorado Mountain College (CMC) in Leadville. The course includes portions of the CMC cross-country trail system and Lake County trails maintained by the Cloud City Wheelers in Leadville.
The course starts up a gradual climb through a pine forest and meanders through the Nordic ski trails to an old mining road. Riders will then turn onto Upper Deck, a twisty single track, which intersects Wheelers Way. The course descends clockwise on Wheelers Way eventually sending riders up through the aspen forest on Golddigger and Cold Feet. The course will once again intersect with Wheeler’s Way where it rolls down and up to Old Chub. Riders will quickly intersect with a double track road to Lower Boulders a fast mix of double track and single track. The course turns left back onto the Nordic trails with a double track climb back to the finish. Total course distance is approximately 6.1 miles, with approximately 650 feet of climbing per lap.
We are extremely grateful to Leadville Coach Bruce Kelly and to Sterling Mudge of the Cloud City Wheelers for their course design and consultation.
