Voters throughout Iowa will be given an opportunity to witness a forum involving all the candidates running for governor in the state’s June 5 contested primary elections.
The forum takes place from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 21, at Ballantyne Auditorium on the Kirkwood Community College campus, 6301 Kirkwood Boulevard SW, Cedar Rapids. It will also be live streamed on Facebook to give access to voters who cannot make it to the site.
The event is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Iowa and will include all six candidates running in the Democrat gubernatorial primary and the two Libertarian primary candidates. Democrats are Nate Boulton, Cathy Glasson, Fred Hubbell, Andy McGuire, John Norris and Ross Wilburn. Libertarian candidates are Marco Battaglia and Jake Porter.
“Gov. Kim Reynolds has been invited to participate in the morning forum,” League of Women Voters of Iowa President Mary Rae Bragg said, explaining the original plan included an afternoon forum for Republican primary gubernatorial candidates, but the failure of Ron Corbett’s campaign to submit the required voter signatures, incumbent governor will not have a competitor on the GOP primary ballot.
“We are indebted to the Linn County and Johnson County local Leagues for all the hard work that went into putting this event together,” said Bragg. “With the electronic participation that live streaming on Facebook offers, the candidates will be seen and heard by voters all over the state who plan to vote in the June primary.”
Live streaming is available on the League of Women Voters of Linn County Facebook page.
