On Friday 6 April, Leeds city centre will play host to ‘COLLIDE’, a one-day dance event specifically for boys.
Organised by the Learning and Participation team at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD), with funding from Leeds Inspired, the event features over 35 all-male flashmob style dance performances happening at 7 different city centre locations throughout the day.
Members of the public can experience a range of different dance styles on the day, from contemporary and ballet, to street and hip hop, and there are even opportunities to try them out and get involved.
Performances will take place every 15-30 minutes at Victoria Leeds, Victoria Quarter, Trinity Leeds, Briggate, Lands Lane and Dortmund Square. Leeds’ award-winning Kirkgate Market will host a central information hub for the event, where visitors can go to find out more about the day, pick up a map and take part in dance workshops specifically for boys.
NSCD has invited professional dance companies Hawk Dance Theatre, Company Chameleon and Northern Rascals to perform, as well as community dance groups in Leeds including NSCD’s Adult Creative group, DAZL, Kick off Boys Dance project and Northern Ballet Academy.
The event aims to highlight opportunities for male dancers in Leeds, from community dance classes through to professional training.
