This is a classic, colourful trek which will take us through remote villages, cliff-top monasteries and rocky gorges. We will climb up to the high pastures of Nimaling, which is the nourishment point for the local wildlife during summers. A seldom used pass at 5350m provides a final challenge and offers tremendous views extending as far as the Karakoram and Tibet.

Arrive in Leh in the morning and relax for the day acclimatizing for the higher altitudes.
Day 2: Local sightseeing.
The best way to acclimatize is to move around the city. We will go for sightseeing in Leh to various monasteries and Stupas
Day 3: Drive to Chilling and trek to Skiu
We will cross the river Zanskar using the rope bridge shortly behind the village Chilling. Then we will climb on a hill on a 4x4 road. After a small pass with a beautiful view, the road will lead downhill again until we reach the small settlement called Skiu (or Skio). At the far-end side of Skiu in the direction of Markha there is a large camp-site besides the Markha river.
Day 4: Skiu to Markha
On the way uphill along the river we will pass by places called Sara and Latho. A trail runs partially over loose rocks and scree in the river bed as the old path higher up has disappeared. The Markha river needs to be crossed several times on small and thrilling bridges. We will be enjoying the marvellous wild river landscape here. At the entrance of Markha village we will find a camping ground at the right hand side of the trail.
Day 5: Markha to Hankar
This is a relatively easy day. We will start with a visit of Markha Gompa which has a nice view of the village and surroundings. A clear trail goes up the valley. After two hours in the picturesque route we will reach at long Mani wall. There is a small Gompa of Umlung, which can be reached on a tiny and exposed foot path on higher side of the valley. Plenty of sea buckthorn grows along the later part of the route. In the village of Hangkar buckthorn juice is available at the campsite. Campsite is located at the confluence of the small river Langthang Chu and Nimaling Chu.
Day 6: Hankar to Kang Yatse base camp
At the river confluence we will take the eastern valley (left) trail. After two hours we will reach a campsite called Thachungtse (4250 m) and have tea. After Thachungtse, the path gets steep. We will reach the small lake Tsigu (4690 m) which reflects the two distinct summits of Mt. Kang Yatse. We will be at the edge of the large Nimaling plains, where food and drinks are available in a large tented camp. From here we will trek towards Kang yatse base camp.
Day 7: Kang Yatse circuit
We will go around the Kang yatse massif. The trail has beautiful high altitude lakes. We will be able to see Kang Yatse 1, 2, 3, 4 peaks from many angles. We return to our camp by lunch time.
