Celebrating 40 years of live music ...

Returns to the Lion 👍

Playing first with Iron Maiden then Samson before launching his own band, Barry Graham Purkis (AKA Thunderstick) has been a legendary part of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) scene since the late 70s. In 2017 Thunderstick returned with a highly acclaimed new album ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ which attracted enthusiastic reviews in the UK and around the world.
With a new lineup Thunderstick the band returns to the stage in 2018. Viixen is the rock ‘n’ roll wildchild vocalist who will be sparring with the crazed, masked drummer. The band will be playing material from the recent album, as well as earlier material. There will be something special, too. By way of a tribute to the band that the drummer was such a big part, the set will also include some classics from the Samson era. This is the first Thunderstick band gig in over thirty years. The performance at Leo’s Red Lion represents a unique showcase gig ahead of festival appearances in the summer and autumn.

In the June 2005 issue of Classic Rock Magazine, Thunderstick was listed as no. 36 in the "50 Greatest Drummers in Rock"

Take yourself back thru the mists of time to circa 1983..... Phil and Julian (aka Sack) were playing in two different bands. Both bands broke up around the same time, so they decided to form a new band. Originally called 'Isis', but this was changed when Ebony Records showed an interest in signing us. Ebony thought the name was shite....and in hindsight I think they were right!
