Please join Life Force Arts Ensemble (Joan Forest Mage, Kristen Wray and guest performers) for the second in a series of four Sound Healing Theater Performances based on the myth of Psyche and Eros. Encompassing many of the classic fairytales, this story of a beautiful young girl beloved by the God of Love himself, and the trials and tribulations of trust, betrayal, revealing of the self, impossible tasks and ultimate happy ending creates a rich ground for healing. Tonight's performance focuses on Psyche's journey to the Underworld to find the secret of beauty, and her return to her beloved Eros. Surrounded by the beautiful artwork in the current LFAC art exhibit Passion & Vision: The Skills of Youth we use sound healing, movement and story to catalyze a highly transformative event.
Joan Forest Mage is proud to serve as a shamanic artist, teacher and healer in her hometown of Chicago. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Life Force Arts Center, dedicated to activating the spiritual power of the visual, literary and performing arts in artists and audiences. Joan earned a Master of Arts Degree from School for New Learning, De Paul University, Chicago, with the focus area "Creating Healing Ritual Through the Arts." She is one of the contributing authors of Healing with Art and Soul: Engaging Ones Self Through Art Modalities, a book on Expressive Arts Therapy. Joan also continues her artistic work, giving shamanic music and dance performances with her performance group.
Kristen Wray is certified as a Reiki Master. She participates in women’s work as an Assistant Team Leader with Woman Within, an international organization, where she has staffed over 25 weekend trainings, witnessing and supporting the transformation and growth of hundreds of participants. For ten years, she and her husband served as Resident Masters in the College of the University of Chicago where they supported the undergraduate residents while living in community with them, hosting student dinners, organizing guest lectures in the dormitory and trips to cultural events, leading weekly mindfulness meditation sessions, and curating an annual week long arts festival with a gallery show and several performance nights. She is currently a teaching assistant in the Life Force Arts Shamanic Training Program, and as a classically trained singer uses vocal sound healing as one of her healing modes. As a fiber artist/weaver, she participates in the healing effects of art and community through membership in the Weavers Guild of the North Shore, where she has served as the editor of the Guild’s newsletter since 2008. Kristen wishes to share the gifts of healing that she has received to heal others.
