NB! Arrangementet vil foregå på engelsk.

Arrangører: Senter for Kvinne og kjønnsforskning, Institutt for pedagogikk og Institutt for sosialantropologi, UiB.

Race, racism and difference: An open meeting with Paul Gilroy

Prof. Paul Gilroy (King's College London) is one of the world's leading postcolonial intellectuals. Since the 1980s, he has been offered incisive critique of both race-thinking and racism, and has broken ground in our thinking about difference. Works such as There Ain’t No Black In The Union Jack: The Cultural Politics of Race And Nation (Routledge, 1987), The Black Atlantic: Modernity And Double Consciousness (Harvard University Press, 1993) and Against Race: Imagining Political Culture Beyond The Color Line (Harvard University Press, 2001) have become reference points for the postcolonial scholarly canon on race and racism. Meet Prof. Gilroy in conversation with researchers Yael Harlap (Department of Education, University of Bergen) and Bjørn Enge Bertelsen (Department of Social Anthropology, University of Bergen). Researcher Randi Gressgård (Centre for Women's and Gender Research) will introduce Prof. Gilroy.

This event is supported by Fritt ord, and is organized by the Centre for Women's and Gender Research, Department of Education, and Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Bergen.

NOTE: The event will take place in English.

Also note: Professor Gilroy will give a lecture under the headline The Value of Antiracism the day after, on Friday April 20, at 12:00-14:00. The lecture will take place in the 9th floor at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Due to space restrictions, please register here: https://skjemaker.app.uib.no/view.php?id=4798910
