“Flinner provides the next logical evolutionary step to David Grisman’s unique ‘Dawg’ style, and does it with a nod to the past and a vision of the future.”—Bluegrass Now

“Matt Flinner can play the mandolin as fast as anyone, but is also one of those rare virtuosos who knows that sometimes it’s the notes you don’t play that makes the melody great.”—Associated Press

“Flinner….represents the next generation of new acoustic music.”—Acoustic Guitar Magazine

Special Guest: Darol Anger
www.darolanger.com
Fiddler, composer, producer and educator, Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres, some of which he helped to invent.
Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with ground-breaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the David Grisman Quintet, Montreux, his Duo with Mike Marshall, and others.
He has performed and taught all over the world with musicians such as Dr. Billy Taylor, Bela Fleck, Bill Evans, Edgar Meyer, Bill Frisell, David Grisman, Tony Rice, Tim O’Brien, The Anonymous 4, Marin Alsop and the Cabrillo Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, Mark O’Connor, and Stephane Grappelli.
Hear Darol on NPR’s “Car Talk” theme every week, along with Earl Scruggs, David Grisman and Tony Rice. He was the violinist on the phenomenally popular Sim City computer games, and recently began an ambitious online Fiddle School at ArtistWorks.com.

“Deeply Rooted New Acoustic Music”
The Matt Flinner Trio has been exploring new pathways and setting new standards for the bluegrass trio sound throughout the US. and Europe.
Mandolinist Matt Flinner, guitarist Ross Martin and bassist Eric Thorin cover a variety of musical styles, with the common ground of American roots music - Bluegrass, jazz and old-time music. The members draw from their wide array of musical loves, experiences and influences, distilled into the trio’s own organic New Acoustic music, or Modern String Band music, or Chamber Grass ...
The trio began its “Music du Jour” tours in 2006, in which each member writes a new composition the day of the show, and three new pieces are performed for that evening’s concert.
The trio recorded its first CD, “Music du Jour,” on Compass Records in 2009. They have now performed over 150 “du Jour” shows. Their third CD, “Traveling Roots,” (2016) was released on Compass Records. The trio continues their “Music du Jour” project, writing music the day of the show for special guests including Tony Trischka, Darol Anger, Sam Bush, Frank Vignola, Andy Hall among others.
