A national treasure, Ruth Colvin will share about the beginnings of the volunteer adult literacy movement here in the U.S., as well as some of her extraordinary experiences working in support of adult literacy all over the world.

A Presidential Medal of Freedom awardee - the highest civilian award of the United States (2006), Colvin was also inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame (1993) and received the U.S. President’s National Volunteer Action Award (1987). She has vast experience working with native English speaking adults and students who are learning English as a Second Language. She is also an author of several books (with another in the works), who has visited 62 countries, worked in 26 developing countries, actively golfs, serves on various boards, participates in three book clubs, holds several honorary degrees, and will be the commencement speaker for Le Moyne College this spring.
