This three hour workshop plunges into the view and practice of contemplative Christianity, or the yoga of Jesus.
We will explore the relationship between original sin and original blessing, as well as, the indwelling presence of God. But this workshop focuses more on practicing the presence of God, than knowledge about God, thus considerable attention is paid to spiritual practice, notably Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina.
Centering Prayer is a meditative form of prayer that seeks an immediate experience of God. Lectio Divina is a meditative practice designed to awaken the meaning of scripture within. Both are traditional practices in Christian spirituality, dating back centuries, not new age addendums. That said, they may challenge the beliefs of some.
These practices enable us to experience the presence of God by moving us beyond what we think about God. Those open to this challenge are encouraged to participate. Those looking to merge their spirituality with modern day stress reduction techniques, such as mindfulness, may also find this workshop rewarding.
